Here is the guideline to get your name in voter's list. Note that even if you have a vote in your hometown, you can easily register in Bangalore/any other city and vote. Below is the process to register as a voter in Bangalore:
1. Go to http://www.ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in/->"Enroll online as voter". It opens http://voterreg.kar.nic.in/ page. Register using email-id and mobile number. Each voter needs to register separately using a different email id.
3. Which form to fill – Its better to register as 'new voter' and fill up form 6. If you try to transfer from other constituency, its cumbersome.
4. Fill up the form online. The form is self-explanatory.
5. Upload photo, date of birth proof and address proof. Aadhar or Passport for Age proof (even with hometown address) and Rent agreement or LPG delivery challan for address proof works well. Here is the more exhaustive list of documents
Age proof: Passport / PAN / Aadhar / Birth Certificate / 10th class certificate / Driving License
Current Address proof: Rental Agreement / Passport/Driving License/ Gas connection bill (or Gas delivery challan)/ Any post / letter / mail delivered through Indian Postal Department in the applicant’s name. The rental agreement or bills can be in the name of applicant or immediate family member (spouse, parents etc)
6. Take a printout of that acknowledgement, keep applicant's copy for yourself and send ERO copy to the address given in the acknowledgement or refer this Home Page to know the address to submit your application. Don’t forget to carry photocopy of Age proof and Address proof in your name or in the name of relative mentioned in the application.
7. Submit the documents at nearest BBMP office.
8. Check your name in the voter's list online within 15 days at Home Page or Voter Information Somehow, these are two different sites and its better to check at both the sites.
You can go to BBMP office on any working day after 10:30am. It took me barely 5 min to submit the form at BBMP office. The process is pretty straightforward and simple. Only thing is that you need to visit BBMP office for ~5 min.
Important: Voter Card is only for identification, just like PAN or Aadhar. But the important thing is name in voter’s list. If your name is in voter’s list but you don’t have voter card, you can vote by showing any other ID like PAN, Aadhar, DL etc.
